Understanding Retention

Retention amounts can be set when creating a new Commitment. If Retention is set at the Commitment Level, that amount of retention will be withheld from all transactions related to that Commitment. For example, if overall retention is set to 5% default, all transactions will be subject to a 5% withholding of retention.

Certain circumstances may dictate the need to either override the default retention amount or to manually enter a set dollar amount. This can be done on a case-by-case basis at the Transaction Level.

It is important to remember the Parent/Child relationship between Commitments and Commitment Items & Transactions. What is set at the Commitment Level can and will affect subsequent settings for both Commitment Items and Transactions.

Please note, ForSitePro does not set a default retention percentage - this is up to the Financial Manager at each site to decide. When creating a new Commitment, ForSitePro will default Retention percentage to 'None'.
